Introduction

At Rokeby School careers education is not an enhancement but an entitlement and we are committed to developing the life chances of all our students. All students receive a broad and balanced careers programme both inside and outside of the taught curriculum. Our goal is for every student to have participated in some form of careers related learning designed to support their future choices and employability opportunities during each year of their schooling.

We have a dedicated and committed school staff who work to ensure that students have access to exceptional Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) above and beyond the statutory government requirements. Rokeby School is aware of the new statutory careers guidance for schools, published in January 2018 and will be continuing to improve our provision both in line with the new guidance and beyond it. We are implementing the eight Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance:

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning from career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each student
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experiences of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance

We work in partnership with the London Borough of Newham and 15 billion-ebpn to ensure that every student has access to impartial careers information, advice and guidance. Our Careers Advisor is Lisa Parillon-Langlais. Her role is to provide information, advice and guidance to help students make realistic choices about their education. Lisa is at the school every Thursday and is employed by 15billionebp. She ensures that students are provided with the correct information and advice when making decisions about post 16 education and training.

We also work closely with The East London Business Alliance (ELBA) who build networks between businesses, schools and young people through understanding their needs, skills and knowledge.
